Seventeenth Meeting

The 17th meeting of the Stern Family Circle was held at the home of Mr & Mrs Monty Speigel, 2 South State St. Vineland, N.J. on the evening of May 28, 1949. The guests present were Mrs Nellie Hoffman and Mr & Mrs Adolph Brownberg of St John, N.B. Canada and Mr & Mrs Friedman (I don't know who this could be)and Miss Sylvia Brownberg of New York. Sylvia is Jenny's oldest daughter who by the way is still alive and living with her son inn Ottawa. The minutes were read and approved as read. Sylvia Stern reported on Lobster dinner "UGH" Adolph says that this is a momentous occasion as all the sisters and brothers are present save Anna who is tending her garden. The Treasurer makes his report which reads thusly: $39.15 $95.00 collected $1.50 bingo for a total $136.65 minus 25.65 Mama's birthday leaving 110.00 minus 113.25 dinner and 10.00 gift making 13.25 in the red.

Monty says from now on we should have hamburgers. Adolph Brownberg offer to pay dues but is refused by all but Treasurer who collects $45. Helen suggests that Canadians be honorary members. Seconded by Lynn. Motion carried that they be non-paying members. Monty suggests that a meeting be held in Canada and we'll all attend at A. Brownbergs by plane. Adolph wants to know if Bingo, craps and poker are played there.

Helen suggest that Circle buy a large coffeemaker to be used by all. Lil seconds the motion Ruth seconds. We buy. Adolph says that's okay for the coffee drinkers but what about milk drinkers. Ruth suggests we get a cow. Motion passed. Adolph says everyone know how to milk a cow. Monty ways his Grandma to 6 baby ***** Lynn says his Grandpa.

Lil says Father's Day is coming. Adolph says the regular committee should take care. Monty suggests a motor scooter. Albert says a pony. Ruthie says a TV set. TV no good as he doesn't stay up so late. Dumped in committee's lap. Lil announced Doggie Roast in her backyard. Nellie announced Phyllis' (her daughter) graduation at Jewish hospital and invites the family.

Lil announces June 6th Rene's (her daughter) graduation and party at the Elks. Nellie announces that Anna invites everyone to Canada. Adolph says that Nellie purchased a camp and invites everyone. Jennie says that if her expected grandchild is a boy she invites everyone to the Briss.

Adolph asks for an election. Lil asks for a vote of confidence in Adolph. Next meeting to be held at Jane's in Sept. A. Brownberg thanks meeting for honor bestowed upon him. Monty 5th VP saya that Adolph knows there is a delicious dessert and wants to close. The meeting is adjourned to the tune of several jokes.
