Nineteenth Meeting

The nineteenth meting of of the Stern Family Circle took place at the home of Mr & Mrs Lawrence Stern, Axtell Avenue, Vineland, NJ on the evening of November 5, 1949. The guest of the evening was Mrs Brunetta Guttman of Montreal, Canada. The minutes were approved as read. A. says as there was no dinner there was no report.

Our treasurer reports that at the moment we are $20.00 in the hole. Lynn wants to know how the four boys on the couch got their hands in their pockets in such a cramped position. Treasurer collect
s $45.00 which gives us a balance of $25.00. Eddie reports that two prominent poultry men (two of the brothers were poultry farmers) paid their dues with one dollar bills which he claims is a bad sign. A. claims its a crap game. The fifty dollar bill with which Alfred paid his dues is from his reserve, he claims. Sylvia says it's borrowed.

The gifts to Ruthie and Lynn are shown and speeches of appreciation are made. A. says we're all happy to see Eddie up and around and less 15 lbs. and Lil says it's the first time she's ever been able to get her arms around him.

A. says it's fine to see Momma looking so pretty also that we have a lovely gift for them both and not to chase the men when they come with it. A. tells about the time Herman picked up a pretty girl and discovered she was colored. (
Remember this was a very long time ago and the world was very different) A very dry meeting because the Jr. Vice isn't here as he can't get a sitter. A. says that someone ha important business to be confined to ten minutes and call on Alfred. Eddie gives excellent dissertation on reducing and A. says we should buy him a new belt. Lawrence brings out a scale and all weigh themselves and so on this weighty note to meeting adjourns for refreshments.
