The next few meetings took place when Mom and Dad ( Lynn and Ozzie) and my brother Paul and I were down in Pompano Florida for the entire winter. When we went down there I remember staying in a little house on stilts and shaking out my shoes to get rid of scorpions.
The sixth meeting of the Stern Family Circle took place at the m\home of Mr and Mrs Albert Stern, Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, New Jersey on the evening of Dec 21, 1947.
The meeting was opened by the president. The minutes were read and approved. Monty suggested that the minutes be sent to Lynn to write which the new secretary failed to do.
Eddie announced that the smoker (any body have an idea what these were) was a failure and it was made clear that Sylvia peaked at Smoker #1 not smoker #2.
Herman suggested that the Stern family have a smoker with Sarah , his wife, as chairman to be assisted by Goldie.
Ruth announced that she already purchased the anniversary gifts for the month of her meeting.
At this point, Monty wanted ventilation so the bathroom door was opened.
Eddie reported on the rug committee. It was originally $81.90 but Adolph got a $3190 discount. The treasurer also paid for 2 anniverysary gifts.- $20.
$70. spent
195 balance at Fred's
$125. balance Dec 21.
The treasurer's report was accepted.
The president than extended sincerest sympathies to Ruth and Helen because each affair surpassed the last and Sylvia's was the finest. He then wanted to know why Jane couldn't make things like that but Sylvia came to the rescue.
It was suggested at this time Jane start out more simply on the next round and once in a while the group should go out in a body. After mucht to do it was left to the women to decide. Monty was bribed to suggest this be put into immediate effect but was over ruled.
A serious mood was introduced when the president made an urgent appeal for the U.J.A.
The previous mood was restored when the president asked Herman if he had brought the dice. Herman redeemed himself by producing a pair which had been slipped into his pocket by Adolph.
The dues were collected.
A discussion took place concerning the replacement of Lynn as secretary. The honor was bestowed upon Ethel (another of Adolph's daughters) a non-member because no one else wanted it.
The president made a standing invitation to the family to see the television.
Herman stood ready to take orders.
The next meeting is to be at the home of Mr and Mrs. Alfred Stern, date to be announced.
Herman and the dice took over.
The meeting was adjourned.
