Its been a few days because of two wonderful things. First my niece gave birth on June 24th to the most recent Stern, Atlas Nolan DePasquale-Stern and this weekend we had a Stern family reunion in Millville, NJ. It was so wonderful to see over 100 members of this great family. Now on to the next meeting.
The seventh meeting of the Stern Family Circle took place at the home of Mr and Mrs Alfred Stern, Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, N.J. on the evening of January 25, 1948.
The meeting was opened by the president. The minutes were approved as read.
Sarah and Goldie made their report on the smoker. It was decided that Srah would perform with Goldie as first assistant.
Herman arose and formally assured the group that his wife's was quote good unquote.
At this inopportune moment Fred lost a filling and the queastion was repeated. Fred also assured us his wife was in good shape.
Herman was then made head of the committee to find the lost dice.
Herman had arrived late because he was making money so it was unanimously decided that he should split it.
The President then commented on the lovely meal.
At this point, in the meeting the guests were introduced.
Herman Weizel (my Uncle married to Anna the oldest of the Stern children) was about to give a learned discourse on shoes but Jane commented on his spats and ruined the solemn occasion.
The President , in the name of the Weizel family, invited the family - separately or en masse - to visit St John (New Brunswick where the family lived for fifteen years in the earlier part of the century) for a stay of not less than two weeks.
Anna (see above) fainted but when revived assured one and all that there was a river in the backyard and they were invited to "drop-in".
Nellie (another of the Canadian sisters maried to Meyer Hoffman) who had been cringing behind Grandma was informed that all the surplus went to her.
The first annibversary presentation went to Big Ruth (since there were two sisters-in law named Ruth & one was tall she often wound up being called Big Ruth while the other was called little Ruth, Big Ruth was married to Gus and little Ruth married to Alfred. ) and little Gus. Gus wiggled his ears whereupon a deluge of pennies fell. Although Gus scrambled on the floor, it appeared to this reported that Ruth, in her calm way, beat him at the haul. After much excitement, Ruth made her acceptance speech, grabbed the gift and ran.
From the old and decrepit to young and vigorous.
The second presentation went to Sylvia and Albert.
Treasurer's report-
$170 Dec 21
$170 Jan 25 + $40 + $210
There will be no meeting in Feb cause Pres. & wife would be in Florida. The meeting was adjourned.
However, due to the fact that the sgt in arms had broken the rules he was forced to render his selection from Exchange Minstrel- Bluebird of Happiness.
Eddie Warren had a great voice and often broke into song.
