-The fifth meeting of the Stern Family Circle took place at the home of Mr and Mrs. Fred Stern, Chestnut Avenue, Vineland, New Jersey on Nov 8, 1947. This meeting was in commemoration of the fifty-seventh anniversary of Mom and Pop and delicious refreshments were served and enjoyed by all.
The meeting was opened by the president and the minutes were read. The minutes stood as read save for the omission of the fact that good refreshments were served at the previous meeting too. A motion was carried that the secretary's salary be doubled to double "nothing". Adolph wonders aloud how -------- chicken could taste so good.
Report on gift committee was that Lil says she took it into her own hands to buy Mom and Pop a rug for their anniversary. Helen said that she very hurt about not being consulted. The bill, not having arrived, the rug hasn't been paid for as yet.
Monty reminded the family that this is supposed to be a club of brotherly love yet Sarah was sick in the hospital and only a few of the family sent gifts. The conclusion was that everyone send gifts as they like and not wait for Lil to remind them.
A discussion was held about sending presents to each member of the club on their respective anniversaries. The price limit was set at ten dollars. Herman suggested that the gift be in keeping with the length of time married but the motion was over-ruled.
A motion was made that the presents start on the first of the year and the person having the meeting that month be responsible for purchasing of gift. The hosters of the month to be notified by the secretary of any anniversaries taking place within that month.
The dues collected by the treasurer ans his report was that there was a balance on hand of $150.00 and he collected $45.00 more. Gus suggested that it was now time to appoint and auditor.
Adolph suggested that Herman be demoted as he did not bring any dice which proved that Sara was supreme boss in her family. And Goldie still stands as undisputed boss of her family too as Fred has no dice to offer.
Adolph informed the family that they were very fortunate that Jane forgot the tickets to the concert. It was very bad. Herman told the assembly that Eddie has tickets to a smoker and Sara made the statement that if Adolph would be there Herman would be too. Jane wanted to know where it was. Guest was Brunetta Guttman of Montreal.
No further business but the announcement that the next meeting would be held at Sylvia's on Dec 21st. Meeting adjourned.
