Ninth Meeting

The ninth meeting of the Stern Family Circle, which inaugurated the second year of meeting, was held at the home of Mr and Mrs Gus Stern, Grant Avenue, South Vineland, N.J. on May 2nd , 1948. Correction on voting of last meeting, Herman 16 the rest to A (Adolph). Acting sect. to be put on carpet for thin minutes which were approved as read. A. wants to count votes as presidential votes. Monty says Gittone ( he was Vineland mayor for a number of years) will get in again. A. suggests new president but is overwhelmed. He will continue if offered Treas. spot as well. Monty want to know if A. will want to the post if no moredues collected. Someone said something building an addition to their house. Herman suggested A. stay on if we double his last year's salary. A. nominates Herman. Monty says no go as business is bad.

A. suggests a woman president, Sylvia, as business is good with her. She says salary went up. Albert is worried about this for he isn't responsible for the salary going up. A. appoints a committee of three to look into this. Monty, Eddie, no good for Freddy, no teeth, and Gus. Syl says she wants Fred. Monty wants to know if Freddie's new phone in the cellar is a pay booth. A. insists that he wants three men who can be trusted but can't get them in this family. Investigation to be held when Goldie goes to Philly. A. says next meeting to be held in his house with air-conditioning, television but no rugs or furniture. A., the pres. was elected unanimously, feels that the Vice P has been remiss in his duties. All other parties doing okay. Shall stay intact. Vice P admitted that he doesn't do a good job but he was unanimously re-elected. A. suggests that he have assistants. A. suggest Herman.

Gus says that no one in family has full set of teeth. A. says third V.P. to be Ozzie. Monty ways, railroad job. A. says an A.K.
? organization. A. says Monty is Junior Vice. Before election of Treas. Herman wants Treas. report in black and white. Monty says he'll get it in green. A. says Treas. needs counter. Herman says he needs a body-guard, duties to be taking of wallet and counting to see if all is there. Sect. wants an assistant. Wants Monty but can't have him. Albert made first Assistant 2nd Asst. Fred. Lawrence is Sgt at Arms.


A. appoints Ruth to have at least one anchovy roll assisted by Goldie, to be assisted by all other women. A, saya we should have dinner. Ruth suggests Horn & Hardart. How many lobsters? How many steak? How many both? All. Only paid members allowed to attend. A. suggests dinner to be on Wed. 19th finally decided upon the 12th. A. to take care of arrangements.

There are no June brides. Sylvia says that all the Sterns married to get warm. A. says we should go to a show in the fall. Lynn says before we go to Fla. Ruth says before they go to Calif. Monty says before they go to the dogs.

V.P. has first public job of presenting anniversary gift to A. Takes opportunity to pass it on to 2nd V.P. , 2nd V.P. takes opportunity to pass on to 3rd V.P. 3rd V.P. takes opportunity to pass it on to Junior Vice. The Junior Vice, as the honor is too great for him, puts it on the table for anyone to take. A. grabs it with "pishy" eyes. A. says committee for Mother's Day gift is Lil, Syl and Jane. Approved Sect suggestion that she already has sis pages of minutes that the meeting be adjourned. Mom had no report on her trip to Atlantic City
(Every year for Passover, my grandmother would decamp to Atlantic City to a kosher hotel since my Grandfather refused to allow her to do Passover in their home) It was cold and she has to eat matzohs. That's all. Meeting officially adjourned.
