Fourteenth Meeting

The fourteenth meeting of the Stern Family Circle took place at the home of the Edward Warren's on Grant Avenue, South Vineland, New Jersey on Saturday evening, Feb. 14th, 1949. The meeting was opened with difficulty by Adolph who remarked that Herman ist nicht du (I suspect this is Yiddish). No correction in the reading of the previous month's minutes as Lawrence wasn't there. A letter of thanks from the relatives in Canada was reported, thanking the Stern family for clothes and cash sent. The Treasurer reports that for the first time in our history, it didn't pay, it was in the red.

Syl wants another lobster dinner. Monty says we'll eat it at the White Tower.

$20.00 to Canada, Jan. 22 $5.00 $102.25 dinner $107.25 in the red $5.00. Sara has anniversary so we're in the red $15.00. Sara and Herman arrive at this point. Eddie says the speaker at the B'nai Brith was excellent. A/ says that we should have been at Holiday House because he was the entire Kipin. Ather notes: it's raining. Herman has new car. It's not enough that Herman and Sar come late but they completely disrupt the meeting with their lousy new car. About the quotes from A. A. want report from Syl on her extracurricular activities during the month. If she took out time to report she wouldn't have time for activities.. A. says the first prerequisite of a good Sect. is to be able to dash around a desk. Lil says that whole gift idea should be changed to buy gifts without asking person. Ruthie says that a committee to purchase gifts. Some one says we should drop the whole idea for a year or two. Finally agreed to appoint committee of 2 for next anniversary.

A. appoints the test "lady gayers", Ruth Lynn, Helen Ruthie and Syl. A. appoints Albert and Fred to discuss matter with Lawrence about coming to meetings. Gus says he'll talk to Sarah. A. says that 25 years ago Lawrence was the same, if not smarter than the others by sayinghe can't do anything and everything has to be done for him. He wants to report tht his teeth were removed by Dr. N.G. Pitel without any pain and new teeth were a beautiful job.

Going from the morbid to divine A. wants to know who the minstrel was. Gus says that Carol said that Eddie was the best. Syl says that a man behind her said , Oh lookit Walt Boody, Isn't he good? Treasurer collects $45.00 which gives us a balance of $30.00.

No further business at 10:00 P.M. but plans foranother dinner. Vote of thanks for Fred and Goldie for paying for Sara and Lawrence's dinner. Mom suggests that instead of A. and Jane going to Fla. they should go to Lakewood and take her along.

A. tell old joke about old Maretti hotel which has to do with soup and enemas. Lil announces that Rene and Dodo (
her daughters) are in public speaking contest. Meeting adjourned with Alfred's 98 score and Lynn ows to the East three times. Further notes added later. We adjourned to the basement, and were delighted by some of the most delicious home baked pastries it was ever the pleasure of the Stern family to gorge themselves upon. Then Bingo was played.
